Injuries are inevitable in hockey, but it doesn't make it any easier to watch players leave games, especially when they can't go to the locker room on their own.
Last night, in the AHL, the Utica Comets forward Filip Engaras had to leave the ice on a stretcher after a dangerous collision with the boards.
Engaras was trying to get the puck behind the Laval Rocket defenseman Zack Hayes in their zone. The Comets player skated with the puck when he was pushed by Hayes and lost his footing, hitting the boards head-first at full speed.
The medical unit wasted no time to assist him, and eventually placed him on a stretcher before leaving the ice.
"Fillip Engaras took a hard fall into the corner and was taken off the ice by paramedics. Our thoughts are with him, and we will update with any information as it becomes available.
