Recent Developments Suggest Matvei Michkov May Make His NHL Debut Sooner Than Expected

Sergei Ivanov is a promising NHL prospect from Russia, selected in the 5th round of the 2022 NHL entry draft by the Columbus Blue Jackets. Recently, the KHL decided to terminate Ivanov's contract, granting him the opportunity to sign a new 2-year deal in the NHL with the Blue Jackets.

"Per the #KHL, SKA has terminated the contract of #CBJ prospect Sergei Ivanov, and he signs a new two-year contract with them that runs until the end of the 2024-25 season.

It was reported earlier that he'll join Admiral on loan."

This development obviously left fans speculating whether the KHL could potentially do the same for Matvei Michkov, the 7th overall pick in the recent 2023 draft, who is currently under contract with SKA St. Petersburg until 2026. If he could terminate his contract similarly, it might pave the way for an earlier arrival in the NHL than originally expected.

Michkov has been tearing up the KHL recently and it's gotten fans of the Philadelphia Flyers more and more excited for his debut in the NHL.
