There were powerful emotions today at the Milano Cortina Olympic Games, as men’s hockey semifinals and a frightening accident shook the Winter Olympics.

Fans woke up to high-stakes action on the ice, and the men’s hockey tournament absolutely delivered.
Canada edged Finland 3 to 2 in a tight semifinal that kept everyone on the edge of their seats until the final whistle.
Nathan MacKinnon scored the winner late in the third period, while Shea Theodore and Sam Reinhart also found the back of the net for Canada.
Finland pushed hard, but Jordan Binnington shut the door when it mattered most.
In the other semifinal, the United States overpowered Slovakia 6 to 2 in a fast, physical game.
Dylan Larkin and Tage Thompson set the tone early, and the Americans never really looked back after building a multi-goal lead.
Those two matchups quickly became the talk of the hockey world, especially for NHL fans watching many of their favorite stars battle for Olympic glory in Italy.

Milano Cortina men’s hockey thrills before Kamila Sellier crash stuns Winter Olympics

Yet the Milano Cortina Games were marked by heavy emotions away from men’s hockey, and for a heartbreaking reason.
A terrifying accident unfolded during the women’s 1500 meters short track event.
Polish skater Kamila Sellier, a two-time World Championship medalist, was struck in the face by the blade of American skater Kristen Santos-Griswold after a fall mid-race. The blade sliced across Sellier’s left eye area, leaving her bloodied on the ice.
Thankfully, Sellier was wearing protective goggles, which likely prevented far more severe damage to her eye.
According to Polish officials, the 25-year-old required stitches and was transported to hospital for further testing.
She was forced to withdraw from the competition following the incident.
The Games also saw another scare when American freestyle skier Nick Goepper crashed hard during the halfpipe final.
The three-time Olympic medalist misjudged a landing and slammed his back against the snow, but he later got up and is reportedly doing okay.
It was a day that reminded everyone how thin the line can be between triumph and danger at the Olympic Games.
Moments of glory and moments of fear, all unfolding within a few intense hours.
