Skip Bayless just put on a clinic on how to humiliate yourself in front of the entire hockey world.
He watched Quinn Hughes bury the overtime winner for Team USA against Sweden. He saw the wide-open ice of the 3-on-3 format, and his mind was blown. He loved the unbelievable speed, the 1-on-1 shots, and the massive amount of open space.
So he grabbed his phone. He fired off a completely unhinged tweet demanding the NHL listen up and adopt this magical new concept right away.
Just one massive problem. The NHL has been playing 3-on-3 overtime for over a decade.
Since the 2015-16 season, actually. Gary Bettman and the league fixed this exact issue ten years ago to cut down on shootouts and add more action.
And Skip totally missed the memo.
This is what happens when talking heads try to fake their way through a hockey conversation.
Fans completely robbed him of his dignity online.
They absolutely crushed him in the replies. Community notes humbled him on his own timeline with an elite fact-check that took about five words to destroy his argument.
He tried to act like a visionary, bringing a fresh idea to the table. Instead, he proved he doesn't watch a single second of the sport outside of the Winter Olympics.
If you want to talk puck, you have to know the game. You can't just parachute in during a high-stakes tournament, watch ten minutes of free hockey, and pretend you belong in the conversation.
Even Frank Seravalli wouldn't waste breath dissecting this level of ignorance. It is pure comedy watching a media giant trip over his own ego.
The guy makes a premium price tag living off hot takes. He thrives on stirring the pot. But this wasn't a hot take.
It was just flat-out wrong and incredibly embarrassing.
Next time, he needs to stick to talking about basketball and leave the real sports to the fans in the stands.
