The Boston Bruins have claimed a 25-year-old goaltender off waivers from the Vancouver Canucks, according to multiple reports.
Patera was the only player claimed out of 28 who were waived yesterday. The 25-year-old goalie reached Group VI UFA status this summer after making just eight appearances in the NHL with the Golden Knights.
He had signed a two-year, two-way contract with Vancouver, initially expected to be their No. 3 goalie behind Thatcher Demko and Arturs Silovs. However, after the Canucks signed Kevin Lankinen late in the summer, Patera fell to fourth on the depth chart. Although he was still projected to start the season as the third-string goalie due to Demko's ongoing knee injury, his role became less certain with Lankinen now on the team.
