An unexpected development has emerged regarding Tyler Johnson's future with the Boston Bruins.
On August 31st the Bruins signed two time Stanley Cup Champion Tyler Johnson to a professional tryout (PTO) contract. Recently reports suggested that Johnson after a strong training camp was on track to sign a full contract with the team similar to how Danton Heinen signed last year after a PTO.
However, things have taken a surprising turn. According to multiple reports, it now appears that the Bruins will not be offering Johnson a one-year deal. With NHL rosters due by 5 p.m. today, there's still a chance things could change, but Johnson wasn't on the Bruins' trip to Florida for their season opener against the Panthers.
If true, it's a tough break for Johnson, who had an impressive camp and showed that he still has the skills to compete at 34.
