Buffalo Sabres rising star Tage Thompson just set an impressive NHL record with his slap shot.
As the Sabres continue their search for a franchise leader following Jack Eichel's departure Thompson has stepped up showcasing incredible skill & power. On Saturday he achieved a significant milestone with a record breaking slapshot.
Thompson's shot recorded at 104.69 miles per hour is now the hardest shot measured by NHL EDGE technology since it was introduced in 2021-22. This achievement comes as Thompson is off to a strong start in the 2024-25 season scoring seven goals in nine games. His recent record surpasses the previous one set by Michael Kesselring just three days prior at 103.77 MPH.
When you shoot the puck at 104.69 mph, good things are bound to happen.
Tage Thompson is having himself a day, including becoming the 2nd player in 3 days to set a new benchmark for hardest shot recorded in the NHL EDGE era (since 2021-22).
The Sabres claimed a 5-3 victory over the Detroit Red Wings in the game where Thompson's record breaking shot took place helping the team even out their season to 4-4-1. With a young & promising lineup built around Thompson the Sabres are aiming for a significant leap this season and if Tage Thompson keeps firing shots like this, their chances of returning to the playoffs look bright.
