Calgary Flames general manager Craig Conroy has sent a message to the rest of the NHL about the expectation that he will be having a fire sale.
Conroy is puzzled by the growing expectation that he will be selling off players this season. According to TSN's Pierre LeBrun, Conroy believes he has already made the big roster changes he needed to over the past year, and he's done with any «fire sales.» While he may move a few players nearing the end of their contracts, he doesn't plan on making any more major trades.
LeBrun mentioned that some key players like Nazem Kadri, MacKenzie Weegar & Blake Coleman have been rumored to be on the trading block. However Conroy sees these players who are under contract beyond this season as part of the team's solution & not the problem. Conroy believes these players are committed to helping the team during the transitional period & are crucial to the Flames future.
Conroy's focus is on building a stable competitive team & with the Flames off to a strong 4-0 start he seems confident in his decisions. He isn't looking to shake things up with major trades unless something significant changes. Instead he's aiming to create a cohesive roster that can move forward together.
It remains to be seen if Craig Conroy and the Calgary Flames can keep up with this strong start to their season, and who knows, by the trade deadline we might have them buying instead of selling.
Stay tuned for more.
