The Calgary Flames have just announced that they traded forward Andrew Mangiapane to the Washington Capitals for a second-round pick in 2025.
NHL insider Elliotte Friedman broke the news:
Andrew Mangiapane has been traded from Calgary to Washington for a second-round pick in 2025
Andrew Mangiapane has been traded from the Calgary Flames to the Washington Capitals in exchange for a 2nd round pick '25. Mangiapane had a down season, however besides that he's been an analytics darling for a few years already. Good deal for Washington in my eyes.
Mangiapane, who has spent his entire career with the Flames, had his best season in 2021-22, scoring 35 goals and 55 points. However, he had a down year recently, managing only 40 points. In Washington, he will look to revitalize his career, likely playing in their top six alongside talents like Alex Ovechkin, Dylan Strome, and Pierre-Luc Dubois, who the Capitals traded for earlier this year.
This trade helps the Flames clear significant cap space, which could allow them to sign top free agents during the upcoming offseason.
