The Calgary Flames made a notable choice by selecting Zayne Parekh 9th overall in the 2024 NHL Draft, but he is now under scrutiny for comments about Jett Luchanko.
The NHL released its draft video today, featuring new prospects like first overall pick Macklin Celebrini, fourth overall pick Cayden Lindstrom, Jarome Iginla's son Tij Iginla, Montreal Canadiens' Michael Hage, and Zayne Parekh, one of the few players of Southeast Asian descent in hockey.
Zayne Parekh is regarded as one of the smartest and most dynamic defensemen from Canada in recent years. However, he has been accused of attitude issues, which were highlighted in this video. When the Philadelphia Flyers selected Jett Luchanko, Parekh had a surprising negative reaction:
Jett Luchanko went 13? Wow...
Here is the video of Jett Luchanko's selection, which is sure to become a fan favorite:
While Luchanko may not have been the best player available according to many, the Philadelphia Flyers got their guy, and that's what matters in such an unpredictable draft.
If Zayne Parekh cannot fix his negative attitude, his path to the NHL may be more challenging than expected. The NHL is a whole different ballgame compared to the OHL, and he needs to be prepared.
