Flames fans dreaming of a Tij Iginla homecoming can officially wake up. Head coach Ryan Huska will not have the teenage phenom in his locker room anytime soon.

Calgary is shipping veteran defenseman MacKenzie Weegar to the Utah Mammoth this Wednesday. The framework for the deal is already complete, pending his full no-trade clause.
The fan base immediately demanded Jarome's boy in the return package. You can't blame them for chasing the nostalgia of that legendary bloodline to revitalize a struggling franchise.
But Utah isn't moving its prized prospect. The Mammoth front office considers the young sniper a completely untouchable asset.
With 71 points already in the bank for Kelowna this season, he is single-handedly carrying the offense. He operates with solid execution on every single shift.
His offensive output at the junior level is terrifying. He practically lives on the power play and dominates the puck drop.

Reality Check For Calgary

Weegar simply needed a change of scenery after a brutal stretch of games. He currently owns a -35 rating on the year, which sits at the very bottom of the league.
Over his NHL career, the 32-year-old has proven he can log heavy minutes on the blue line. But the defensive structure collapsed entirely in the third period lately. Unacceptable.
Utah wants stability for its playoff push. They need crisp passing out of their own zone, not an emotional blockbuster involving their top teenager.
Flames management had to be realistic. You don't get a blue-chip prospect for a struggling veteran carrying a massive cap hit and term.
He has been held scoreless in only a handful of games all winter. The transition game he brings to the table is unmatched in his entire draft class.
Someone pointed out he went minus-3 in a random game two years ago. Now he boasts a **+33 rating** and dictates the pace every night.
Calgary is trying to build for the future, but they must look elsewhere to find their next cornerstone center. The upcoming homestand will have a very different feel without Weegar in the mix.
It is a tough pill to swallow for the Saddledome faithful. But the business of hockey rarely cares about romance.
Would you like me to break down the actual return package for Weegar once the trade is finalized?
