Carolina Hurricanes top-4 defenseman Brett Pesce's father has just confirmed that his son is leaving the team this summer.

The Hurricanes season ended last night with a 5-3 loss to the New York Rangers, marking not only the conclusion of their playoff run but also the end of Brett Pesce's time with the team. Pesce's father confirmed on social media that Brett will not be re-signing with Carolina.
With Pesce's contract expiring, he is set to become an unrestricted free agent (UFA). His father, Brian Pesce, responded to a fan's comment on social media, indicating Brett's departure:
#LetsGoCanes D Brett Pesce has new representation. He is now repped by Judd Moldaver, EVP of Wasserman Hockey. Pesce is entering the last year of his current contract.

Will certainly come to Raleigh when Brett's on a different team and keep our tradition alive; vodka shots on me!
This suggests that Pesce and the Hurricanes are parting ways. As one of the top two-way defensemen in the league, Pesce will be highly sought after in the UFA market and is expected to command a salary of at least $6 million. This news certainly spices up the upcoming free agent market!
