Laurent Brossoit's debut with the Chicago Blackhawks will be delayed.
The team announced Wednesday that the 31-year-old goaltender had meniscus surgery on his right knee and will be out for five to seven weeks.
The Blackhawks start their regular season on Oct. 8 in Utah.
Brossoit, from Port Alberni, BC, signed a two-year, $6.6 million contract with the Blackhawks on July 1.
He has played 140 NHL games over 10 seasons with the Edmonton Oilers, Winnipeg Jets, and Vegas Golden Knights, where he won a Stanley Cup in 2023.
Last season, Brossoit returned to the Jets and played in 23 games, posting a 15-5-2 record with a .927 save percentage and a 2.00 goals against average.
Throughout his career, Brossoit has a 64-46-13 record with a 2.64 GAA and a .911 SV%.
