Colorado Avalanche captain Gabriel Landeskog has announced his return to game action after a two-year absence due to injury.

Speaking at the BMW Championship Pro-Am, Landeskog shared some exciting news about his status for the 2024-25 season. According to Corey Masisak of the Denver Post, Landeskog confirmed to a fan that he will definitely be playing for the Avalanche this season, though he's unsure if he'll be ready by opening night or later, possibly around Game 10 or 20.
After the event, Landeskog told reporters that his return is now a matter of "when" rather than "if," which is fantastic news for Avalanche fans. He mentioned feeling significant progress in his recovery over the past few months and stated that he will undergo testing before training camp to finalize the plan for his return.
The Swedish forward has missed the last two seasons due to a knee injury that required three surgeries. Late in the 2023-24 season, he started skating again, hoping to contribute during the playoffs. Unfortunately, the Avalanche were eliminated in the second round by the Dallas Stars.
Landeskog's return will provide a significant boost to the Avalanche's top-six forward group, especially with Valeri Nichushkin out until at least mid-November. Landeskog could start the season playing alongside Casey Mittelstadt and Artturi Lehkonen. The Avalanche are aiming to take another step forward in the 2024-25 season as they chase their fourth Stanley Cup in franchise history.
