Newly signed veteran forward James Van Riemsdyk sounds off on joining the Columbus Blue Jackets following the tragic death of Johnny Gaudreau and his brother.

James van Riemsdyk (JVR) has officially joined the Columbus Blue Jackets under heartbreaking circumstances, following the recent passing of star forward Johnny Gaudreau.
On Sunday, JVR signed a one-year contract with the Blue Jackets, a team that faced many struggles last season. Despite the unusual and difficult situation, JVR's experience and reputation around the league make him well-equipped to help the team through this challenging time.
When asked about his decision, JVR called the loss of the Gaudreau brothers «tragic» and «senseless,» while also noting how moved he was by the «outpouring of support and love» from the hockey community in response to the tragedy.
JVR acknowledged that this season will be tough for him and his new teammates, but emphasized the importance of unity during such difficult times.
"The hockey world, we're a brotherhood," said JVR as per Blue Jackets insider Aaron Portzline. "We look after each other and try to be there for each other, and that's going to be an element of this. There are going to be some things here outside of the game of hockey.

"It's not a linear thing, right? There will be good days, but some days are going to be tough. We're going to support each other as much as we possibly can."
With his leadership and compassion, JVR's presence in the Blue Jackets' locker room will be important as the team navigates the emotional challenges ahead.
