Columbus Blue Jackets star forward Patrik Laine is reportedly on the move, and a surprising team has now emerged as a frontrunner to acquire him in a trade.
The Chicago Blackhawks have an exciting young roster for the 2024/25 season, but they might need to trade for an elite goal scorer to complement Connor Bedard.
Patrik Laine, recently released from the NHLPA's Player Assistance Program, is expected to be traded by the Columbus Blue Jackets soon. While Montreal has been seen as a likely destination, new reports suggest that the Chicago Blackhawks are also very interested in acquiring Laine to pair him with Bedard on their top line.
Eklund of Hockey Buzz reports that Chicago is the top contender to give Laine a fresh start.

Specific to Patrik Laine, I've heard that the Chicago Blackhawks are the No. 1 team that is eager to acquire him for a fresh start in another city. The idea of getting Laine together with Connor Bedard makes a TON of sense. Have also heard Carolina, the Islanders and LA have interest. Utah is a dark horse.
Other teams reportedly interested include the Carolina Hurricanes, New York Islanders, and Los Angeles Kings, with the new Utah Hockey Club being a dark horse.
Although a deal hasn't gained traction yet, it's widely believed that Laine will be moved. If the Blackhawks can add the 26-year-old former 40-goal scorer alongside their 19-year-old rising star, their future will look even brighter.
