Despite facing backlash, the National Hockey League proceeded with the decision to allow teams to introduce sponsorships on their helmets and sweaters. This move aims to compensate for revenue losses during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Even historic teams like the Toronto Maple Leafs, Boston Bruins, and Montreal Canadiens have embraced this trend. Now, it seems the Detroit Red Wings are following suit.
The Red Wings already feature a helmet sponsorship, currently held by Meijer, and previously by UWM. Yet, they have never displayed any advertisements on their sweaters. Over the years, the team has sported various patches, including the special "Believe" patch in 1997-98 and the "Mr. I" patch in 2016-17.
