Edmonton Oilers GM and President Contradict Each Other in Live Press Conference Following Coach Firing

With a 3-9-1 record to start the season, the Oilers made the decision to relieve Head Coach Jay Woodcroft of his duties.
While the coaching change itself wasn't a shock, what drew attention was the handling of the press conference by GM Ken Holland and Oilers President Jeff Jackson.
During the media briefing, Holland mentioned discussions with Oilers veterans from the past week, only to be immediately contradicted by Jackson, who asserted that veterans had no involvement whatsoever.
Are they not saying the exact opposite of each other?

Edmonton Oilers Executives Appear Out of Sync Following Head Coach's Firing
The issue at hand isn't necessarily whether players had a say in Woodcroft's firing. It's not uncommon for a GM to ask the opinion from the team captain regarding the coach. However, what raises concerns is the lack of alignment between Jackson and Holland.
I'm seeing some #Oilers fans turning on Connor McDavid because of the decision to fire Woodcroft & hire his old coach. Just curious, if McDavid outright said "it's either Woodcroft or me" how many of you would have picked Woodcroft?

This brief glimpse into the press conference may reflect the internal disagreement within the Oilers' executive team, which appears to be grappling with a crisis mode situation and a lack of clear consensus on their plan moving forward.
