According to Edmonton Oilers insider Bob Stauffer, the Oilers and star forward Leon Draisaitl are working on a long-term contract extension to keep Draisaitl in Edmonton for many years.
On Edmonton's 630 CHED radio station, Stauffer reported that he had spoken with Draisaitl's agent, former NHL goalie Mike Liut, and that they are working on a 7- or 8-year deal, with an 8-year deal being most likely.
«I spoke to Mike Liut (Draisaitl's agent) it's going to be a 7 or 8-year deal. It's probably going to be an 8-year deal realistically»
There are also unverified reports suggesting that Draisaitl's new contract could be worth $13.5 million per season for eight years.
While there's no official confirmation yet on the length or value of the contract, Stauffer is a reliable Oilers insider known for accurate reporting. However, we'll need to wait for more traction before considering it a done deal.
Stay tuned, Oilers fans. If Draisaitl does commit to a long-term deal in Edmonton, it could positively impact captain Connor McDavid's future with the team as well.
