Edmonton Oilers forward Evander Kane is expected to be out until January or February after undergoing surgery, according to Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman.

On Friday, Kane had surgery to repair both abductors, two hernias, and two abdominal tears. The 33-year-old shared an Instagram story from his hospital bed with the caption: "Successful surgery, long road ahead but very grateful for my amazing surgeons and nurses."

Kane told reporters that he first noticed an issue in late October, and it worsened over time. He managed 44 points (24 goals and 20 assists) in 77 regular season games and added eight points (four goals and four assists) in 20 playoff games. However, Kane missed five of the seven Stanley Cup Final games against the the Florida Panthers due to injury.

While Kane didn't provide a specific recovery timeline, Edmonton GM Stan Bowman stated that Kane would be "out a while."
