Oilers fans under fire for disrespecting the National Anthem
Ahead of a critical Game Six in Edmonton, fans showed major disrespect to the National Anthem, and now they're facing plenty of backlash online.
With the Stanley Cup Finals returning to Canada vs. America with Edmonton and Florida, it appears as though some fans may have taken that sentiment to heart. During the National Anthem of the United States ahead of Game Six, some Oilers fans were seen disrespecting the moment, and thus the country with whom they share a major border.
Oilers fans were chanting «SERGEI» so loud they covered up the US National anthem
Disrespect, or passionate fans?

While the whole arena can't be blamed for the moment, as it wasn't every single person there, if it was loud enough to cover the arena, it's a good portion of Oilers fans joining in on the disrespect. Unfortunately, there's nothing that Gary Bettman or the NHL can do to combat such a situation, and with the Finals heading back to Florida, we may see retaliation.
Fans are passionate, and with their team needing motivation, they will often resort to unnecessary measures to make their voices heard, so we simply hope that something like this doesn't happen again in the future, whether it be in Canada or in the United States.
