It's already started off with a bit of controversy though. The Minnesota Wild elected to re-sign Marc-Andre Fleury last offseason, which upset Cam Talbot who requested a trade. The trade sent him to the Ottawa Senators in return for Filip Gustavsson.
Even though they saw Fleury as the 'starter' Gustavsson's numbers were significantly better, which draws speculation as to why the Ottawa Senators would have even traded the 24 year old netminder, who just posted a 22-9-7 season, with a 2.10 GAA and .931 save percentage.
Now, it appears that the torch of starting goalie has been passed, as reported by Michael Russo, Gustavsson was the first off the ice from practice, which usually signifies he is the starting goalie for the evening:
Fleury is two seasons away from a Vezina trophy as the leagues best goaltender, and is a three-time Stanley Cup champion, and has been to the finals 5 times. Is this a big mistake?
