Former Maple Leaf and current Predator Ryan O'Reilly tried to convince GM Barry Trotz to trade for Mitch Marner before the free agent frenzy.
The Nashville Predators were active during NHL free agency, signing former Tampa Bay Lightning captain Steven Stamkos and Conn Smythe winner Jonathan Marchessault, among others.
However, before these signings, Ryan O'Reilly reached out to rookie GM Barry Trotz to try and acquire his former teammate Mitchell Marner from the Toronto Maple Leafs, according to a new report.

«Prior to the Predators spending a whack of dough on free agents (Steven) Stamkos, Jonathan Marchessault and Brady Skjei, eq-Leaf Ryan O'Reilly did his very best to convince GM Barry Trotz to make a push and trade for Mitch Marner,» Kypreos said.
With the NHL draft concluded, a Mitch Marner trade seems unlikely, and it appears he will begin the season as a Maple Leaf, entering the final year of his contract.
