Nashville Predators goalie Yaroslav Askarov has informed the team that he will not be reporting to training camp and has requested a trade.
NHL insider Kevin Weekes broke the news this morning, revealing that Askarov, who has been the subject of recent rumors, prefers to be traded rather than stay with the team.
-
The Predators selected Askarov 11th overall in the 2020 draft, but since then, he has only played in three NHL games, earning one win with a 2.57 GAA and a .914 save percentage.
-
Askarov has been increasingly frustrated with his lack of playing time in the NHL. The situation escalated when the team recently signed their top goalie, Juuse Saros, to an eight-year contract, leading Askarov to decide that his future with the Predators was over. He made his intentions clear today.
More updates will follow as the situation develops.
