GM Daniel Brière revealed the Philadelphia Flyers official trade deadline plans in a press conference.
Despite a massive 3-2 shootout win over the Toronto Maple Leafs on Monday-extending their first three-game winning streak in 93 days-Brière isn't letting short-term hype dictate his strategy.
The victory moved Philadelphia to a 28-21-11 record, leaving them just four points back of the Boston Bruins for the final wild-card spot. While the locker room is buzzing, the front office remains focused on the long game.
Flyers GM reveals trade deadline plans
When asked if the recent surge changed his deadline approach, Brière offered a blunt "Nope." He made it clear that the Flyers won't be chasing rental players who could compromise the team's future salary cap or asset pool.
Brière's vision is centered on sustainable success rather than a one-and-done playoff appearance. Over his NHL career as an executive, he has preached patience.
"What matters for us is obviously the future. We're still building."
This philosophy was evident last summer when he acquired 24-year-old Trevor Zegras, a move designed to inject high-end skill into the core for years to come.
While defenseman Cam York expressed a desire to keep the current roster intact, rumors continue to swirl around veterans like Rasmus Ristolainen. Brière hasn't ruled out moves, but they must "make sense both for now and in the future."
The Flyers struggled through a difficult 3-8-4 stretch earlier this winter, and while they are currently chasing a playoff berth, the organization refuses to pivot. The goal is to build a contender that reaches the Show every spring, not just a team that squeaks in once every four years.
With the deadline set for Friday at 3 p.m. ET, the Flyers are positioned as disciplined sellers or "lateral" movers.
Don't expect a desperate splash; Philadelphia is sticking to the plan.
