Pittsburgh currently holds a 1-2-0 home record and is 0-2-0 against Metropolitan Division rivals. As they try to break a two-year playoff drought, these numbers are far from ideal. On Friday, they suffered a 4-1 defeat to the Carolina Hurricanes, and Sullivan voiced his frustrations after the game.
"There's so many things that need to be better," said Eller. "The attitude, the energy, the execution... we put ourselves in bad spots all the time. I hope we won't see another game like this."
"I think we did it to ourselves," said Eller. "I think our lack of energy, will, winning pucks, execution was all missing today."
The Penguins now face a tough four-game road trip through Canada, taking on Winnipeg, Calgary, Edmonton, and Vancouver. At 3-3-0, the season isn't lost, but to give veterans like Crosby, Malkin, and Kris Letang a shot at another Stanley Cup, the team needs to step up and perform consistently moving forward.
