Tampa Bay Lightning star forward Steven Stamkos' fate has officially been confirmed.
Stamkos has been with the Tampa Bay Lightning for fifteen years, but as free agency approaches, his time with the team may be ending.
According to Stamkos' agent, he will be hitting free agency.
From Stamkos' agent Don Meehan, who tells me regarding his client:
«He will be a free agent on July 1.»
So would appear Stamkos is going to market Monday unless something changes in Tampa's position.

In a recent interview, Tampa Bay Lightning general manager Julien BriseBois confirmed there is no deal in place to extend captain Steven Stamkos. It is possible that a deal won't be reached by the start of free agency. Several teams, including the Detroit Red Wings, Nashville Predators, and Toronto Maple Leafs, have shown interest in the former 60-goal scorer.
Julien BriseBois said they have met with Steven Stamkos & his agents as recently as yesterday said they have not been able to come to a deal at this point that satisfies both sides, won't add more other than he's not sure if they will be able to get a deal done by Monday.
Added that both sides are still interested and motivated to get a deal completed, but not there at this point.
Julien BriseBois met Steven Stamkos' agent yesterday but there is no assurance yet that he will return with the @TBLightning next season.
The Tampa Bay Lightning have had significant success with Steven Stamkos, including winning two Stanley Cups. If Stamkos leaves, it would mark the end of an incredible era of hockey in Tampa Bay, just as their rivals, the Florida Panthers, are rising.
