The start of the 2023-24 season hasn't gone the way that Tyler Bertuzzi would have imagined this past summer when he signed in Toronto, and now he's getting even more heat from Maple Leafs fans.

A rough start

Despite the hype of having Bertuzzi replace Michael Bunting on the first-line, things haven't gone according to plan, with the former Red Wings forward being demoted to the fourth line late in the loss to Boston.

In 10 games this season, despite playing with Matthews, Marner, Tavares and Nylander, he has managed just 2 goals and 3 points, and now, footage of him on the bench during their latest loss has sparked outrage in the fanbase.

Nothing to explain

During that loss, the Maple Leafs were criticized for not going after Brad Marchand following his actions, and while Ryan Reaves and others were seen chirping the Bruins captain, Bertuzzi simply sat there and smiled.

When asked about the video and the criticism he's received over it, this is what Bertuzzi had to say;

People can perceive that however they want, I'm not going to explain myself.

Ultimately, this one clip won't define his season, but with so many opportunities alongside some of the games best players, he needs to capitalize soon, or if not, we may see him permanently demoted to the fourth line.
