Matthews has been battling an illness that sidelined him from practice last week and caused him to miss part of Game 4. As the team hit the ice for practice, Jonas Siegel reported the absence of Matthews via Twitter.
Sheldon Keefe, the head coach, had to adjust the power play unit during practice in Matthews's absence. Max Domi filled in for Matthews on the first unit alongside Mitch Marner, William Nylander, John Tavares, and Morgan Rielly.
The Leafs will eagerly await an update from Keefe regarding Matthews's status before Game 5. His potential absence would undoubtedly impact the team's chances against the Bruins. If Matthews is unable to play, other Leafs players will need to step up their game to fill the void and keep their playoff hopes alive.
