Toronto Maple Leafs GM Brad Treliving is reportedly eyeing one of his former goaltenders from the Calgary Flames, Jacob Markstrom, for a blockbuster trade.
This past season, the Toronto Maple Leafs struggled with their goaltending. When Joseph Woll was unavailable, the team had to rely on Ilya Samsonov and Martin Jones, who both had inconsistent performances.
With the offseason approaching, the Leafs might look to strengthen their goaltending by adding Jacob Markstrom from the Calgary Flames, a player Treliving is familiar with from his time in Calgary.
In addition to the Leafs, the New Jersey Devils and Ottawa Senators are also interested in the Swedish netminder. The Senators and Devils have an advantage over the Leafs as they can potentially offer a top 10 pick in the 2024 NHL draft, with the Senators picking 7th and the Devils picking 10th.
It remains to be seen what will happen during the offseason, but with a goalie of Markstrom's caliber on the trade block, many teams will likely be interested in acquiring him.
