Toronto Maple Leafs top-4 defenseman Chris Tanev has suffered an injury against the New York Rangers on Saturday night's Hockey Night In Canada & was forced to leave the game.

Tanev who joined the Toronto Maple Leafs this summer to strengthen their defense has been a standout so far this season. Known for his elite shutdown ability & tough presence on the ice he's been a key part of the team's new defensive strategy.
Unfortunately, Tanev was injured during the game against the Rangers. He blocked a shot from forward Mika Zibanejad and was slow to get up, eventually needing help to leave the ice and head to the dressing room:
The severity of Tanev's injury is unknown at this time, but it could be a significant blow to the Leafs. Not only is his absence a loss in a crucial game, but it could also affect the team's long-term plans, especially with the playoffs in mind. Tanev, who signed a six-year contract this summer, was brought in to be the defensive anchor Toronto desperately needed. He had a total of 207 blocked shots last season and finished third in the NHL.
To make matters worse, the Leafs were trailing 2-0 against the Rangers when Tanev left the game. We'll provide updates on his status as soon as more information becomes available.
Stay tuned for more updates.
UPDATE
Some good news for the Leafs as Chris Tanev has returned for the start of the 3rd period.
