After signing a four-year deal with the Toronto Maple Leafs, defenseman Oliver Ekman-Larsson took a subtle shot at his former team, the Florida Panthers.

Oliver Ekman-Larsson has had quite a year. The Swedish defenseman went from having his contract bought out by the Vancouver Canucks to winning the Stanley Cup with the Florida Panthers, all within less than a year.
After the Canucks bought out his hefty contract, Ekman-Larsson signed a "show me" one-year deal with the Panthers. He performed well enough to help them win the Stanley Cup. However, on July 1st, the Panthers chose not to renew his contract, and he ended up signing a substantial new contract with the Toronto Maple Leafs.
When asked about his decision to join the Maple Leafs after his success with the Panthers, Ekman-Larsson's response made waves online:
It's hard to find better talented players than what we have in that room. So I'm super excited to do whatever I can to help them out.
This comment, suggesting that the Maple Leafs have more talent than the Panthers, sparked a lot of discussion, especially given the Leafs' playoff struggles. Now 32, Ekman-Larsson is signed with Toronto for the next four years with an average annual value (AAV) of $3.5 million.
