Today, NHL analyst Paul Bissonnette discussed the future of Mitch Marner with the Toronto Maple Leafs, advocating for the team to retain Marner for another season.

Paul Bissonnette, known for his outspoken views on the Toronto Maple Leafs, recently addressed the team's core four players. He made a controversial statement suggesting the team should keep Mitch Marner and give the core another chance.

I want them to roll it back one more year with everybody... Make Mitch Marner making 11 million bucks have a contract year.

He further explained that the Maple Leafs should make Marner prove his worth in the final year of his contract, whether he stays with the team or moves elsewhere. This assumes Marner invokes his no-trade clause. Bissonnette hinted at being open to trading Marner but emphasized not letting the player control the situation.

This strategy poses significant risks and rewards for the Maple Leafs. The best-case scenario would see Marner performing exceptionally well and leading the team to a Stanley Cup, which would increase his market value without an extension. Conversely, if Marner struggles, the team might have to trade him at a discount by the trade deadline or risk losing him for nothing.

However, Bissonnette's plan may not come to fruition. According to a report from Frank Seravalli, a trade involving Mitch Marner is almost certain this summer.

I think there is a five percent chance or less that Mitch Marner is back

As the offseason progresses, debates about Marner's future with the Maple Leafs will continue. Once the team makes a decision, we will cover all the implications of their choice.
