The Toronto Maple Leafs have significantly upgraded their blue line this offseason, but a new proposal could complete their defensive overhaul with a former Stanley Cup winner.

After a quiet summer, the Vegas Golden Knights are not looking as strong as they have in recent years. With the loss of Jonathan Marchessault, they need an offensive boost. This sets the stage for a potential deal between Vegas and Toronto. A recent social media proposal suggests a trade that could benefit both teams:

Marner for Pietrangelo?

Not sure Theodore would fit anymore after the OEL signing and Berube/Savard/van Ryn would all be extremely familiar with Pietrangelo

Just spitballing, I'd think VGK would have to add and maybe the Leafs want a C, but there's probably something there

On the surface, reuniting Pietrangelo with Craig Berube would be a smart move for Toronto, giving them the blue line depth needed to handle injuries and the pressures of the Stanley Cup Playoffs. While the specifics of a trade need to be worked out, the basic idea of a Marner-for-Pietrangelo swap seems beneficial for both teams. This could especially be true if the Golden Knights secure an extension with the star forward.

Currently, the Maple Leafs seem in no rush to trade Mitch Marner, but acquiring an experienced defenseman like Pietrangelo and then improving their offense through free agency or another trade could be the key to making significant progress this season.
