Superstar forward Alex Ovechkin has officially confirmed that he's planning on leaving the Washington Capitals.

Alex Ovechkin has been the heart and soul of the Washington Capitals ever since he was drafted first overall in the 2004 NHL Draft. Now, as he approaches 39 years old, the end of his NHL career is near.
Ovechkin has two years left on his five-year, $9.5 million annual contract. According to recent reports, he does not intend to finish his career with the Capitals. Instead, he plans to join Dynamo Moscow in the KHL.
Former Dynamo Moscow assistant coach Vladimir Fedosov mentioned that Ovechkin might spend the final years of his career with Dynamo.
"He said himself that he would finish his career in Dynamo... the white-and-blue fans can definitely sleep easy. If Alexander's health is good, he will be able to play until the age of 45,"

Ovechkin still has 42 goals to go to break Wayne Gretzky's all-time goal record, so his NHL journey isn't over yet. However, it seems clear that he won't end his career in North America. The exact timing of his move to Dynamo Moscow is uncertain, but it's only a few years away from becoming a reality.
