Alex Ovechkin has finally addressed the controversy surrounding his emoji response to his GM. His message: he wants two superstar acquisitions.
Washington Capitals GM Brian MacLellan recently made a couple of signings, including Pierre-Luc Dubois and Andrew Mangiapane. When Ovechkin was asked for his thoughts on these signings, he responded with a simple thumbs-up emoji, leading many to believe he was being sarcastic.
Ovechkin has now clarified his stance, stating he wants his GM to trade for Sidney Crosby and Connor McDavid, hoping to see both players on his team next season.
"I want to see McDavid and Crosby on our team"
Ovechkin and Crosby have a long history, spanning roughly two decades of rivalry, and they have developed an off-ice friendship. Ovi now wants Crosby on his line to help him break Wayne Gretzky's goal record and believes adding McDavid, another 150-point player, would significantly boost the team.
The Capitals were swept in the first round of the playoffs last season by the Rangers. If MacLellan can acquire both Crosby and McDavid to meet Ovechkin's request, the Capitals could become a dominant force next season.
