Top prospect Max Penkin is officially changing his name to Max Calce. Adler Mannheim head coach Dallas Eakins confirmed the move for the 16-year-old phenom.

The highly touted German center is honoring his mother by adopting her new surname. It's a deeply personal and classy move from a kid who already turns heads on the ice.
Calce is definitely not just another junior player floating through the system. He's the absolute best talent to emerge from Germany since Tim Stutzle. Elite.
The teenager became the youngest player in DEL history to score a goal earlier this season. He continues to rewrite the record books every time he touches the puck.
With two goals in 14 games playing against grown men, his offensive output is undeniable. He handles the heavy physical toll of professional hockey with surprising ease and maturity.
Calce will be one of the top names called at the 2027 NHL Entry Draft. North American scouts are already flying overseas to watch his quick release and hockey IQ in person.
He secured exceptional status to play in the German U-20 league a year early. And he immediately rewarded that bold decision by racking up an incredible 50 points in 41 games last year.

A Bright Future in Mannheim

The Mannheim native actually grew up idolizing the exact team he now represents. Pulling on that Adler jersey every night means absolutely everything to him and his family.
He recently represented Germany on the international stage at the U18 World Championship. Calce posted three points in five tournament games while playing against older, stronger competition.
His 5-foot-11, 181-pound frame allows him to protect the puck down low in the offensive zone. He thrives on crisp passing and consistently finding open ice for his wingers.
We constantly see young European prospects struggle with the massive jump to senior leagues. Not Calce. He just puts his head down and goes straight to work.
There's absolutely zero rush to bring him over to North America right now. He will continue his daily development in the DEL next season playing heavy minutes.
Eakins knows exactly how to handle high-end prospects from his time in the Show. He will keep the teenager grounded while feeding him prime power play opportunities.
The hockey world needs to remember the name Max Calce moving forward. The 2027 draft class is shaping up to be loaded, and this kid is a massive reason why.
