Last night, the QMJHL draft saw first overall pick Maddox Dagenais force a trade to the Quebec Remparts, similar to Eric Lindros's infamous demand years ago.

With the NHL draft approaching, junior leagues in the CHL are holding their drafts. In the QMJHL draft, a major trade occurred as the Quebec Remparts traded up for the first overall pick, sending several assets to the Cape Breton Eagles.
The trade details are as follows:
Quebec : 1st round 2024 (#1)

Cape Breton : Louca Connolly (04-30-07), 1st round 2024 (#4), 2nd round 2025 (DRU), 1st round 2026

With the first overall pick, the Remparts selected 6'3" forward Maddox Dagenais. Last year, Dagenais excelled in the OMHA U16 AAA, scoring 81 points (42 goals and 39 assists) in just 35 games.

Dagenais joins his father's alma mater, making them the first father-son duo to be selected first overall in the QMJHL draft. In 1995, Pierre Dagenais was the first overall pick by the Moncton Alpines.

Rumors circulated that Dagenais only wanted to play for the Quebec Remparts and would not have reported to Cape Breton if they had selected him first overall.

Now, Dagenais will prepare for his rookie QMJHL season, aiming to further develop for the 2026 NHL draft, where he hopes to be a high pick once again.
