Before the start of the regular season, the Colorado Avalanche faced significant challenges, with captain Gabriel Landeskog's playing future uncertain due to major surgery. Additionally, the team had to navigate the absence of forward Valeri Nichushkin, who entered the NHL's Player Assistance program.

Despite the initial setbacks, there's positive news for the Avalanche following the All-Star Break.
Landeskog is expected to rejoin the team in some capacity during the upcoming road trip. However, there is still no update on Nichushkin.

While the specific role Landeskog will play remains unclear, the fact that he has been skating on his own is a positive development. Landeskog, who sustained an injury in 2022, hasn't played since the Stanley Cup victory against the Tampa Bay Lightning. During that championship run, he contributed 22 points in 20 games.
The 31-year-old underwent cartilage transplant surgery on his knee in May 2023, and in early December, it was announced that he would miss the rest of the 2023-2024 season.
Although there's no definitive confirmation of his return, the hope is that the Avalanche Captain can make a swift comeback to the ice.
