Hockey is known for being a dangerous sport & incidents involving skate injuries have been a concern in recent years. Fortunately a recent scare in the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL) didn't end as badly as it could have.
During a game between HC Sochi and CSKA Moscow, two Sochi players were injured in the same play. First, one player was hit in the face by the puck. Then, Danil Mokrushev fell awkwardly and collided with an opposing player's skate, which hit him in the face.
The incident looked serious & everyone on the ice was visibly worried. However Mokrushev was later seen in the locker room in good spirits & the injury while leaving a scar doesn't seem to be severe. The Russian 25 year old defenseman even earned the player of the game award as a result.
Given the tragic skate-related incident in the UK last season that sadly took the life of former NHLer Adam Johnson as well as several serious injuries in the NHL, this was a lucky escape. As concerns over player safety grow, some wonder if professional leagues like the NHL will soon require more protective gear. For now, though, everyone involved is relieved that Mokrushev's injury wasn't worse.
Stay tuned for more updates.
