In a surprising move the Tampa Bay Lightning have placed two time Stanley Cup champion Conor Sheary on waivers.

The Lightning are off to a mixed start this season with a 4-2-0 record. After winning their first three games they lost two in a row to the Ottawa Senators & the Toronto Maple Leafs. However they bounced back with an 8-5 win against the New Jersey Devils on Tuesday. Despite this momentum the team decided to make a big roster change by waiving Sheary.
The 32 year old Conor Sheary was expected to fill a key bottom line role for Tampa this season but has struggled. He has averaged just 11 minutes of ice time per game with no points, a -2 rating & no shots on goal. This is a far cry from his successful time in Pittsburgh where he scored 97 points in 192 games & helped the Penguins win back to back Stanley Cups in 2017 & 2018 while contributing 17 points during the playoffs.
After stints in Buffalo, Washington & a return to Pittsburgh Sheary signed with the Lightning in free agency. Though his performance has dipped he still has the potential to contribute as a bottom six forward bringing leadership & playoff experience to a team looking to make a run.
It's uncertain what Sheary's next move will be but his experience & winning pedigree could attract interest from other teams.
