Controversial Ex-NHL Player Granted Russian Citizenship

Brendan Leipsic, the 29-year-old former NHL player currently active in the KHL, has made headlines once again by officially acquiring Russian citizenship.
After joining CSKA Moscow in 2020, Leipsic spent two full seasons with the Magnitogorsk Metallurg before donning the uniform of the St. Petersburg SKA. Born in Winnipeg, Leipsic's move to Russia culminated in him obtaining Russian citizenship, marking four years since his move to play in the KHL.
Leipsic's NHL career included stints with the Nashville Predators, Toronto Maple Leafs, Vegas Golden Knights, Vancouver Canucks, Los Angeles Kings, and the Washington Capitals. With 59 points in 187 career games, he transitioned to the KHL for the next phase of his professional journey.
Notably, Leipsic was embroiled in a significant controversy during his NHL tenure when misogynistic messages from his Instagram account were leaked, drawing widespread attention and criticism.
