In late October, just a few weeks after an unsuccessful professional tryout contract with the Anaheim Ducks, Zack Kassian surprised many by announcing his retirement at the age of 33. However, after only three months away from the game, it seems he has reconsidered his decision.
On Sunday, HC Sparta Praha, a team in the Czech Extraliga, revealed that they have reached an agreement with Zack Kassian for the remainder of the 2023-24 season.
A native of Windsor, Ontario, Kassian played in 661 NHL games over parts of 12 seasons with the Buffalo Sabres, Vancouver Canucks, Edmonton Oilers, and Arizona Coyotes, amassing 203 points (92 goals, 111 assists) and 913 penalty minutes.
The future beyond the 2023-24 season remains uncertain for Zack Kassian – whether he considers retirement again, attempts to return to North America, or continues playing in Europe. Regardless, it's good news for fans that he has decided to make a comeback.
