Macklin Celebrini Facing Major Suspension For His Dangerous Hit From Behind
The start of the 2024 IIHF World Junior Championship hasn't been favorable for the projected 1st overall pick in the upcoming draft Macklin Celebrini.
Celebrini received a five minute major for boarding after delivering a dangerous hit from behind to Switzerland's Leo Braillard.
Macklin Celebrini gets 5 minutes for boarding and a game misconduct for this hit on Leo Braillard.
There's speculation that Celebrini might face a suspension for a game or two. Commenting on the hit, TSN's Mike Johnson reacted in a concerning way: "Oh boy, that's going to be out of the game for Macklin Celebrini."
Here's the Macklin Celebrini hit. The IIHF is strict on these types of plays. Would guess he has to sit a game or two to start the tournament.
Canada ended up securing a 6-3 victory. They have one more pre-tournament game against Team USA at 1 pm ET.
Pending a suspension decision on Celebrini, losing him would be a significant setback for Canada.
