The Blackhawks released a statement regarding the health of Samuel Savoie today after he had to be stretchered off the ice yesterday.

Savoie Had Successful Surgery To Repair Broken Femur

The Blackhawks released the news on Twitter earlier today, giving us an update from their own team physician.

"Samuel Savoie underwent successful surgery on his right femur on Sunday in Minnesota, and we expect him to make a full recovery."

Femur injuries are relatively rare in the NHL as it is the largest and strongest bone in the human body. It is a testament to the nature of the play where he was hurt that he managed to break it.

It is relieving to hear that Savoie is expected to make a full recovery but he will likely miss at least half of the upcoming season. Femur breaks typically take 4-6 months to recover.

Savoie put up 59 points in 60 games last year in the QMJHL. If he is able to return before the end of the season this year that is a major win for him and the Blackhawks organization.
