After an incredible career thus far, many believed Phil Kessel may have been done in the NHL after winning his third Stanley Cup a year ago, but now, his return is closer than ever.
A new start

Kessel has played for many teams over his career as he notched 1,064 consecutive regular season games, and after playing for the Vegas Golden Knights a season ago, he's on the verge of joining a new team.
While we don't yet know the identity of this new team, TSN Insider Chris Johnston has revealed that his return could be imminent, with many teams interest in the veteran goal scorer.
He's been skating on his own. He didn't want to go to any training camps on a try-out but it sounds as though he's had a couple close calls with contracts in the past week or two and there is an expectation that he will join a team.
He just wants to be a member of a team and continue living the dream.

Still effective
Despite his age, Kessel has still been an effective player in recent years, tallying 14 goals and 36 points a season ago, and if he can continue at that level, he'd be a perfect bottom-six player for many teams around the league.
Ultimately, Kessel is one of the league's most beloved players, and with plenty left in the tank, it appears he's going to get another shot, and will be a welcome sight for many hockey fans around the world.
