In recent years, the National Hockey League has seen the addition of two new expansion franchises, the Vegas Golden Knights and the Seattle Kraken. The Vegas Golden Knights experienced instant success, making it all the way to the Stanley Cup finals in their first season, while the Seattle Kraken took one season to become a playoff team. The addition of new teams always means an increase in revenue for the league and its owners.
However, despite the success of the recent expansions, NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman has indicated that the league won't be adding any more teams for a few years. Nevertheless, there are always speculations about where the next franchise might go.
While Quebec City and Houston have been mentioned as possible locations, NHL Insider Kevin Weekes thinks it will be somewhere else. Instead, the potential location for the next franchise is somewhere that has already had two failed attempts at an NHL team.
