Phil Kessel is one of the better known names in the NHL. The dad-looking, hot dog-loving hockey player still holds the active ironman streak despite not playing any games so far this season. The veteran winger is hoping that will change soon.
NHL insider Chris Johnston reported today that Kessel has been staying in game shape at his Arizona home. According to Johnston, the 36-year-old is still hoping to get an offer from an NHL club at some point this season. He would have to sign before the trade deadline in order to be eligible for the playoffs, although it is unlikely that he would get consistent playing time on a playoff team in the second season.
Several prominent NHL media personalities have expressed a desire to see Kessel back in the league this season. After all, the league does not feel the same without him. Paul Bissonnette believes that the Penguins of all teams should take a look at a reunion with Phil the Thrill.
His argument is not that far fetched either. He certainly could be an option to potentially help get their power play going. It has consistently been one of the worst in the league despite adding Erik Karlsson in the offseason. Bissonnette is not the only one who would like to see a Kessel-Penguins reunion.
