The Chicago Blackhawks have made a roster change on Tuesday afternoon by placing one of their forwards on waivers.
Former Cup Champion Sanford Hits The Waiver Wire
According to insider Chris Johnston, the Hawks have placed forward Zach Sanford on waivers.
Placed on NHL waivers today: Zach Sanford (CHI) and Jacob MacDonald (SJ).
Sanford joined the Blackhawks from the Arizona Coyotes via waivers on January 6th. He has contributed three assists in 15 games with Chicago, primarily playing in a bottom-six forward role.
Sanford is accustomed to changing teams frequently, with Chicago marking his seventh NHL stop in as many years. Throughout his career, the Massachusetts native has amassed 103 points (49 goals, 54 assists) in 331 games.
Like they did previously with Rem Pitlick, the Blackhawks decision to place Sanford on waivers is likely to create space for a returning player from injury. Players like Andreas Athanasiou, Connor Murphy, and Nikita Zaitsev are currently on injured reserve, though it's uncertain who may be ready to rejoin the roster.
Should Sanford clear waivers, the Blackhawks can assign him to the AHL Rockford IceHogs to provide depth at the forward position.
Do you think Sanford will get claimed?
