During game three of the Stanley Cup finals, former NHL players PK Subban and Mark Messier were discussing the game during the second intermission when things got tense.
The Oilers played poorly in the second period, ending it down 4-1 after having tied the game early on. They allowed three straight goals from Florida, giving the Panthers a strong lead. During the intermission report, PK Subban criticized the Oilers' defense, repeatedly calling them "soft." Former Oiler Mark Messier was visibly unhappy but stayed quiet, as the team's performance supported Subban's harsh assessment.
Hahahahahahahahahahahaha Mess is absolutely SEETHING at @PKSubban1 calling the Oilers' D soft
Many fans noticed that Messier seemed to be reminiscing about his playing days as he watched his former team struggle in a crucial game. It even seemed like he wanted to put on his old uniform and join the game.
Mark Messier wants to put on his old Oilers jersey so bad.. And it still wouldn't be enough #TimeToHunt
Subban's comments were particularly striking because he himself was never known for great defense or toughness. Popular sports media personality Schlasser highlighted this irony.
When PK Subban's going off on the Oilers about how soft and toothless their defense is, it's over.
With the Panthers now leading the series 3-0, it seems almost certain they will win. The only question is whether it will be a sweep. Be sure to tune in tomorrow to see if the Panthers can close things out in Edmonton.
